Well, we’ve made it–we’re halfway to meeting our baby boy! Over the past few months, I’ve really enjoyed gathering things for him here and there. It’s been so fun to pick up things for him and imagining the day he arrives. We’ve been so blessed to have been given most of the “big” items we need for baby Sam, or I’ve been able to get them secondhand (like his stroller).
As for everything else, we’ve been very careful (as first-time parents) not to go spend crazy on our little babe. We have really tried to keep our list for him very minimal, and stick to just what we feel are necessities. Of course, neither Isaac or I have experience with a newborn, so I’m sure you can look forward to a blog post once he arrives detailing what was absolutely necessary on our list (and what was first-time parents over-planning–ha!).
This list doesn’t include everything on our registry (you know what diapers look like), but are some of the things we felt were really good purchases for our babe. All items are linked below, so expectant mamas, feel free to add these to your list!
Safety 1st Deluxe Healthcare & Grooming Kit
This is a 25-piece set that comes in a rolling pouch. It really is a great deal since it includes so many things necessary for a newborn. This kit includes a brush, two combs, aspirator, nail clippers, a medicine dispenser, digital thermometer with case, 5 probe covers, 5 alcohol wipes, and 5 emery boards.
Dreamsoule Foldable Diaper Changing Pad
Those public change tables are downright nasty. I love how this change pad has a pocket for wipes, and also folds up to become a clutch. Perfect for on-the-go diaper changes!
YI 1080p Wireless Baby Monitor
This monitor connects via a mobile app, and not only detects crying, but sends a notification to your phone to alert you. While Sam will be sleeping in our bedroom, I still like having a monitor for nap time.
Fisher Price 4-in-1 Sling 'N Seat Tub
This is a four-stage convertible bathtub that includes a soft mesh sling for newborns, a seat to keep baby from slipping, and has a plug for easy drainage and cleaning. When babies are bathed, they’re so slippery! I feel most confident bathing our little one in this while he’s still so little.
The Mommy Hook Stroller Hook
This hook is perfect for hanging shopping bags, your purse, or any other bag when walking with baby in a stroller. It hooks onto most strollers, and can also hook all your shopping bags together to keep a hand free for baby.
Infantino Flip 4-in-1 Convertible Carrier
While I plan on using my ring sling the majority of the time, I also wanted a carrier that Isaac wouldn’t mind wearing, and something more structured to wear while hiking and such. This carrier is at a great price point, and has great reviews. It holds babies 8 to 32 pounds, and converts four different ways for a variety of seating positions.
Munchkin Secure Grip Changing Pad
We decided on skipping the traditional change table for a new dresser instead. That way, it will be a piece that will be useful throughout Samuel’s childhood and beyond. That being said, we needed a pad for on top of the dresser for diaper changes. This is a perfect option and includes grips to keep the pad from slipping on the dresser.
ALVABABY Bandana Bibs
Oh, spit up. Drool. Every baby has it, so you might as well be prepared. These bibs are adorable and a cute accessory for an outfit. Also, they’re perfect for those drooly smiles!
Jolly Jumper Driver’s Baby Mirror
Pretty self-explanatory, but it’s great to keep an eye on baby while driving.
Simple Joys by Carter’s 7-Pack Receiving Blankets
100% cotton, 30” by 30” flannel receiving blankets in a variety of gender-neutral colours. Perfect for swaddling, spit up, or snuggling!
Simple Joys by Carter’s 8-Piece Bath Set
This 8-piece bath set comes with five washcloths, two hooded towels, and one regular towel. And they’re adorable, right?!
Waterproof Bamboo Changing Pad Cover
This changing pad cover is super soft and perfect for protecting the pad from messy changes. Can be thrown in the wash and put back in place right away.
I hope this was helpful for you new mamas or family members looking for gift ideas for a baby! These are just some of the items we’ve felt would be good purchases for our little Sam. I’m sure there will be another post after he arrives with items I can’t live without. Have a wonderful weekend, friends!
